The Grand Design
Building a workbech. With a couple of shelves. A base for my projects. A place that I can use to organize and complete the many projects that demand my attention here in this old house. This workbench is so important that I have decided to bolt it to the garage wall, just so I can find it.
I’m keeping the design simple. Using basic materials, half inch plywood and eight foot two by fours. And I have mentally adjusted the design several times already, attempting to predict every eventual use for the bench. The design stage is very important, otherwise I won’t have a place to keep the Christmas tree saw.
Can you imagine what it was for God to design this world, just to get it ready for humans to live in it? Think of all the mechanical details, like heating and lighting, space requirements, all that kind of physical environment stuff. And the artistic things, as he composed the spectrum of color, as well as directing a range of sound that could encompass all communication. All the detail he had to think of, just to make a place for us to live. Amazing, especially when I think of how hard it is for us humans to do something like choosing a color for the gravel in a fish tank.
Not only are we fearfully and wonderfully made, but our home is as well.
Maybe it wasn’t a design at all, but rather a vision of what was to be and the first step of the plan was put into place. The legs of the work bench, then the top. Followed by the cabinetry and so on. After that, the naturasl progression of stuff accumulates. Every spring we clear it off, replace it with more useful and productive items…but sooner or later…accumulation of things begins and the cycle goes on.
